Play With Me

Play With Me

I tried to teach my child from books;
He gave me only puzzled looks.
I tried to teach my child with words;
They passed him by, oft unheard,
Despairingly I turned aside;
“How shall I teach this child!” I cried.
Into my hand he put the key;
“Come” he said,”play with me.”

I helped Alex build a mountain out of dirt in the backyard today and then he made a river go down it. It was a suggestion he read in a book. He was introduced to vocabulary words such as delta and valley. The book suggested he float sticks as boats but he thought it would be more fun to have a car drown…LOL. Either way. So there you go- learning through play.

We went to the Virginia Living Museum this morning. What a nice place! It has been a while since we went so we had a wonderful time. It was not crowded and the children were encouraged to touch things! Yay Ian!

Alex’s social skills have been amazing me lately. At the VLM, he was talking a volunteer up, asking her all sorts of questions. Good ones too! I think she was a little taken aback :). And then today, a little boy came over and Alex just went out to play down the street. That is huge for him! It used to be that he would want to play but I needed to be outside with him.

Before we left he talked me through making a heart….LOL. We need to try again though because our straws are not long enough. I meant to buy more today but I forgot. Hopefully, we will make it tomorrow as it seemed cool.
